April 25 Tornadoes in Eastern North Carolina

Storm Summary: 9 tornadoes touched down impacting Beaufort, Bertie, Chowan, Currituck, Greene, Halifax, Passquotank, Perquimans and Pitt counties. Severe storms dumped hail and rain on much of central and eastern North Carolina.

State of Emergency - declared for Beaufort, Perquimans, Chowan and Pasquotank Counties 4/28/14

Small Business Administration Disaster Declaration Requested 5/9/14, Approved 5/14/14

Fatalities - One - 11-month-old child from Chowan County.

Injuries – 28 Total

  • 16 - Beaufort County
  • 1 - Chowan County –  died 4/27/14

Current Reported Damages – 327 homes damaged/destroyed

  • Beaufort County: 197 homes damaged/destroyed in the Chocowinity and Wichards Beach area
  • Perquimans County: 38 homes damaged/destroyed
  • Chowan County: 43 homes damaged/destroyed
  • Pasquotank County: 30 homes damaged/destroyed
  • Greene County: 19 homes damaged

Shelters:  No shelters are currently open. Immediately after the storm, 2 shelters were opened in Beaufort County.
