The NCDPS neurodivergent internship opportunity is designed to be inclusive and supportive of individuals with neurodiverse conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia or other cognitive or developmental variations. The internship aims to create a workplace environment where neurodivergent individuals can thrive. The internship offers flexible work arrangements, clear expectations and communication, mentorship and support, personalized project plans and an inclusive work environment.

The department partners with Linc-IT, a non-profit organization that focuses on integrating neurodiverse people into the workforce.

The program's overall goal is to create an empowering experience that helps individuals build relevant skills, gain confidence, increase their chances of long-term employment with NCDPS and foster an inclusive workplace.

Preference will be given to candidates who reside in North Carolina or are within a 3-hour commute to the duty station assigned for the internship.

Requirements
  • Applicants should identify as neurodivergent, pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

The NCDPS high school internship is a structured work experience program designed for high school students to gain hands-on exposure to public safety careers. The internships are part-time and are either paid or unpaid.

The primary goal of the high school internship is to provide students with practical experience in a real-world setting. Interns typically work alongside professionals in the field, learning about daily operations, tasks and industry-specific tools or technologies. Interns may assist with projects, attend meetings and participate in training sessions.

Interns will be paired with a supervisor who provides guidance and feedback throughout the internship. This individual will help the student navigate the work environment, answer questions and offer advice on career development.

Requirements
  • A senior in good academic standing with a 2.5 GPA.
