Sherry Hunter

Sherry Hunter was appointed Deputy Secretary for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety in July of 2022. In her role as the Deputy Secretary for Professional Standards, Hunter provides oversight of the Office of Special Investigations, Private Protective Services and the Samarcand Training Academy. Hunter comes to DPS having served most recently as the Administrative Services Division Commander for the city of Raleigh Police Department. Hunter was elevated from her previous role of Police Training Director with the department. Hunter also served as the departmental liaison/school director to the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. Hunter previously worked as a Probation Parole Officer with the North Carolina Department of Correction.
