Today, Governor Roy Cooper signed a State of Emergency in preparation for impacts from Potential Tropical Cyclone Sixteen.

Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Emergency Management are encouraging North Carolinians across eastern and central portions of the state to be prepared for tropical weather over the next couple of days. Gusty winds combined with saturated soils could result in downed trees and power outages, along with the possibility of flash flooding and coastal flooding.  

The North Carolina Private Protective Services Board (PPSB) has selected Tamara Rabenold to lead the Private Protective Services Board as chairperson. Rabenold is the first woman to serve in this position since the Board was created 50 years ago.

The N.C. Department of Public Safety has tapped Gerard Tate to lead the state’s Office of Violence Prevention. Tate will serve as the first director of an office established by Governor Roy Cooper in March to help the state reduce violence and firearm misuse.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced the creation of a statewide Office of Violence Prevention that will be located in the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. By coordinating efforts across state agencies and partnering with local leaders, the new office will focus on reducing violence and firearm misuse in North Carolina.
