The Community Violence Advisory Board will convene on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 9 a.m. The meeting is in-person only. Space is limited, with seating for media and members of the public available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Governor Roy Cooper today announced the release of North Carolina’s first Community Violence Prevention Strategic Plan, a milestone in the effort to reduce violence, harm from violence and firearm misuse across the state. The three-year plan was developed and released by the North Carolina Office of Violence Prevention, which was created by Governor Cooper in 2023 to coordinate with state and local leaders to reduce violence and increase public safety. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety on Monday welcomed public health practitioner Siarra Scott as deputy director of the Office of Violence Prevention.

The purpose of VOD is to bring together offenders and victims of a crime to provide an opportunity for them to engage in open and facilitated communication to address the harm caused, understand the impact of the offense and find ways to promote healing and resolution.
