The State Highway Patrol responded to a one-vehicle fatal collision on I-40 west near the Jones Sausage Exit.

At approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2016, an IMAP unit (Incident Management Assistance Patrol) located a 2004 Kia Sorrento in the wood line off of I-40. Upon arriving, troopers discovered a male driver inside the vehicle who was deceased. Investigators believe that the collision occurred during the early morning hours but was not discovered until earlier this morning. Based on a preliminary investigation, investigators believe that the driver may have hydro-planned casing the vehicle to travel onto the right shoulder before colliding into a tree. At this time, there is no indication that alcohol was involved.

The identity of the driver is not being released pending next of kin notification. Once notification has been made, the identity will be provided.
