Governor Pat McCrory announced today that the Small Business Administration has approved North Carolina’s Disaster Declaration for Bertie, Chowan, Halifax, Hertford, Martin, Northampton and Washington counties for the damages incurred as a result of Tropical Storm Julia. The governor has declared a State Type I Disaster for Individual Assistance, opening the door for the affected counties to receive federal assistance.
“The record flooding as a result of Tropical Storm Julia had devastating impacts on the residents, businesses and agricultural industry in Bertie and surrounding counties,” said Governor McCrory. “This declaration will help our state begin to recover by providing our citizens who are uninsured or underinsured an avenue to receive the assistance they need.”
Governor McCrory noted that the state is also assessing damage costs for the town of Windsor and expects it may also be eligible for State Type I Disaster in the near future.
Additionally, emergency teams have concluded joint damage assessments for Cumberland County due to recent flooding and will be working to request a SBA Disaster Declaration there as well.
