DURHAM, N.C. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved nearly $1.5 million to reimburse the Randolph Electric Membership Corporation in Asheboro for damage to its electrical system following Hurricane Florence.

RALEIGH – Attempted murder charges have been filed against an offender who assaulted correctional officer Mary Crosby at Harnett Correctional Institution with a homemade weapon on March 19. 

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Sam Dotson as the new superintendent of the Lincoln Correctional Center in Lincolnton.

Eleven towns, cities and counties working to recover from Hurricane Florence have been awarded more than $16.5 million in grants and no-interest loans, Governor Roy Cooper announced today.

According to the State of North Carolina, 40,000 miles of waterways flow through the state, including 50 rivers, which is part of the reason why flooding ranks as the state’s second most common natural hazard. No matter where you live in the state, water and the risk of flooding are nearby.

At approximately 10:50 a.m. today at Harnett Correctional Institution, an offender assaulted a staff member with a homemade weapon in a housing dorm.

The staff member was transported by EMS to an outside medical facility, where she is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

RALEIGH – The Department of Public Safety confirms that Correctional Officer Mary Crosby was assaulted by an offender at approximately 10:05 a.m. today at Harnett Correctional Institution. 

Today at approximately 9:33 a.m. a correctional officer at Alexander Correctional Institution was struck by an offender while doing a cell search. The situation was quickly brought under control and the correctional officer did not suffer any injuries.

Six months after Hurricane Florence made landfall in North Carolina, storm survivors are getting help to recover and work is underway to make homes, businesses and infrastructure more resilient.

Today, many of the leaders in North Carolina’s efforts to get people leaving prison on track to lead productive lives came together in Greensboro to learn, share information and develop new strategies during the 2019 North Carolina Reentry Summit.

On March 11 at approximately 6:55 p.m. at Maury Correctional Institution, offender William Walls (#0422980) was assaulted and killed at the facility. 

Beginning today, the ReBuild NC Application Center in Wayne County has been relocated. The new Wayne County Application Center is located in Goldsboro at 210 Dixie Trail.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved $3.9 million to reimburse Pender County for removal of debris following Hurricane Florence.
