In support of Operation Stop Arm week the State Highway Patrol will be aggressively enforcing stop arm violations and other traffic violations in and around school zones.

Governor Cooper announced today that FEMA has approved his request to add 12 more counties to those eligible to receive reimbursements for Hurricane Dorian response and recovery expenses.

What: The State Highway Patrol will hold a press event to kick off this year’s Operation Stop Arm school bus safety initiative. Representatives from the State Highway Patrol, the Department of Public Instruction and the Wake County Public School System will speak at this event.

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Ken Beaver as the new warden of the Piedmont Correctional Institution in Salisbury.

Today Governor Roy Cooper signed a state disaster declaration for counties that suffered damages from Hurricane Dorian, making additional assistance available to residents there. “Today’s state disaster declaration will help North Carolinians recovering from Hurricane Dorian get vital assistance necessary to recover,” said Governor Cooper.

National Flood Insurance Program policyholders in North Carolina who had Hurricane Dorian damage have 60 days from their date of loss to file a Proof of Loss. 

FEMA remains committed to ensure policyholders receive every dollar their NFIP policy entitles them.

At 10:17 a.m. tomorrow more than 2.1 million people (including more than 347,000 school children in K-12th grade) have pledged to participate in the Great Southeast Shakeout, the world’s largest earthquake drill.  Any individual, family, organization, school, agency or businesses can register for the event. However, if you or your group haven’t registered you can still practice the ‘Drop, Cover, and Hold On’ drill, the recommended action for people to take during an earthquake.

Today the U.S. Small Business Administration granted Governor Cooper’s request for a disaster declaration for counties that suffered damages from Hurricane Dorian, making additional assistance available to residents there.

The Department of Public Safety recently notified local governments about awards of State Acquisition Relocation Funds (SARF) totaling $28.2 million, which will help these cities, towns and counties complete acquisitions of repetitively flooded properties and help residents move out of floodplain

Governor Roy Cooper sent a letter today to the U.S. Small Business Administration requesting that the SBA grant a disaster declaration for North Carolina counties that were affected by Hurricane Dorian. This request is the first step in establishing a state relief program after FEMA denied North Carolina’s request for Individual Assistance for Carteret, Dare, Hyde and New Hanover Counties on October 8th.
