Media Advisory: Highway Patrol to Remember Fallen Heroes in 62 - mile Bike Ride

Raleigh
May 1, 2014
On Monday, May 5, at 8 a.m., troopers, law enforcement officers, and other supporters from around the state will come together and begin a 62 mile bicycle ride in honor of 62 troopers killed in the line of duty since 1929. The trek will begin at the State Highway Patrol Training Academy located at 3318 Old Garner Road in Raleigh. The bikers will travel though several communities including Angier and Holly Springs, before returning to the training academy. On the journey, supporters, friends, and family members will cheer while remembering each fallen hero.

Last year, more than 32 troopers participated in the memorial ride. The ride was held in honor of Trooper Bobby Gene Demuth, who was killed in 2012. This year, the ride is to honor all 62 members who gave their life in the line of duty.

You are cordially invited to cover and attend this truly special tribute to the troopers of the State Highway Patrol who have given the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the citizens of North Carolina.
