Robeson County, N.C.
Oct 14, 2016

State officials deployed the NCWorks Mobile Career Center to Robeson County today to give residents affected by flooding the opportunity to apply for state and federal disaster assistance.

Residents will be able to use the center’s computers to apply for state-level emergency unemployment benefits and disaster assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The mobile unit will also distribute food, clothing, diapers, personal hygiene supplies, and water.

The mobile center will receive customers at the following locations:

8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Purnell Swett High School
11344 Deep Branch Road
Maxton, NC 28364

2:00-6:00 p.m.
South Robeson High School
3268 S Robeson Road
Rowland, NC 28383

“In the aftermath of a natural disaster, people need quick access to resources to begin the recovery process both at home and in their businesses,” said Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla, III.  “When you see the NCWorks Mobile Career Center you know you’re in the right place to get help.”

Through the mobile center, people can receive career counseling, resume preparation, free Internet access, and help using NCWorks.gov. The vehicle can be deployed upon request and is used for job fairs, veterans ‘stand-down’ events, and business sites receiving Rapid Response services during company closures or staff reductions. Organizations or local governments that want to reserve the mobile unit can contact their local workforce development board.
