The State Capitol Police today commemorated its 50th anniversary by bringing together retirees, former officers and administrative personnel for a special reception.
Last month, the State Capitol Police reached the milestone of half a century of service to the people of North Carolina and state officials, employees and visitors. A floating reception to commemorate the event was held today from noon to 2 p.m. at State Capitol Police Headquarters in Raleigh.
After a few brief remarks, N.C. Department of Public Safety Secretary Erik A. Hooks presented State Capitol Police Chief Glen Allen with a signed proclamation from Gov. Roy Cooper that designates Sept. 29 – Oct. 6, 2017, as “State Capitol Police Officers’ Week” in North Carolina. Retired officers and family members then relaxed and talked with current officers and personnel while enjoying refreshments.
“The men and women of the State Capitol Police are proudly carrying on a tradition of professional, dedicated service that began 50 years ago,” said Secretary Hooks. “They will always strive to honor and remember those who served before them while never forgetting their primary mission of providing a safe and secure environment for employees and visitors to the State Government Complex and at the other state-owned properties they patrol.”
