Department of Public Safety Secretary Erik A. Hooks and Department of Information Technology Secretary and State Chief Information Officer Eric Boyette today visited two schools in Craven County to present boxes of school supplies as part of Governor Roy Cooper’s Third Annual School Supply Drive.
Secretary Hooks and Secretary Boyette met with staff and toured Oak Road Academy and JT Barber Elementary School. Students will receive spiral notebooks, pens, pencils, sanitizing wipes and tissues to help meet classroom needs. On average, teachers spend $500 of their own money each year to adequately supply their classrooms with necessary supplies.
“It’s always an honor to participate in Governor Cooper’s School Supply Drive as we head into a new and exciting school year,” said Secretary Hooks. “Secretary Boyette and I are glad to see so many supplies delivered to help ensure our kids have the tools they need to learn and become the leaders of tomorrow.”
The supplies were donated by employees of the Department of Public Safety. Governor Roy Cooper’s School Supply Drive is offered in partnership between the North Carolina Governor’s Office, the North Carolina Business Committee on Education and its partners, VolunteerNC, State Employees Credit Union, and Communities In Schools of North Carolina.
