FEMA announced federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of North Carolina to supplement state and tribal response efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane Isaias from July 31, 2020 and continuing.

Tropical Storm Isaias is moving northward along the Florida coast and has North Carolina in its path with threats of heavy rainfall, storm surge, damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, and dangerous rip currents.

Although Hurricane Isaias has slowed its advance, the storm remains a threat to North Carolina for localized flooding, dangerous rip currents, power outages and road closures. 

North Carolina is preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Isaias with plans including safeguards for COVID-19. Governor Roy Cooper and State Emergency Management leaders updated the public today, urging them to track the storm and prepare for wind and rain. 

The State of North Carolina and FEMA have approved more than $10.5 million to reimburse Onslow County Schools for Hurricane Florence-related expenses. 

Offender Christopher Watson (#0876848) died Tuesday evening at Scotland Correctional Institution after an apparent suicide. He was found unresponsive in his cell at 7:40 p.m.
