Governor Pat McCrory this afternoon received a federal disaster declaration to help individuals in Camden, Chowan, Currituck, and Pasquotank counties and to help the local government in Hertford County recover from the massive flooding caused by Hurricane Matthew.

Correctional staff with the assistance of law enforcement evacuated a portion of Neuse Correctional Institution this morning following a disturbance that started late Sunday afternoon.

Slightly more than 11,000 people received Disaster Food and Nutrition Service benefits cards on Saturday, the first day the federal assistance was available to North Carolina residents affected by Hurricane Matthew.

North Carolina residents, who suffered losses and damage as a result of Hurricane Matthew, can get information about state and federal assistance at a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Lenoir County opening Monday, Oct. 24.

Correction and law enforcement officers bring a disturbance at Neuse Correctional Institution that lasted approximately four hours under control.  One corrections staff member has been taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
