The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named David Millis as the administrator at Craven Correctional Institution in Vanceboro. Millis moves to the medium custody facility after spending about 1½ years as the superintendent at Hyde Correctional Institution. 

Time is running out for survivors of Hurricane Florence to apply for federal disaster assistance. The deadline to apply for assistance from FEMA or for a low-interest loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration is 11:59 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018.

As the Dec. 13 deadline to register for assistance approaches, disaster recovery centers in six counties will close their doors soon. The centers are currently open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. All are closed Sunday.

With federal flood insurance payments to North Carolinians for Hurricane Florence totaling over a half-billion dollars, officials are urging those who don’t have coverage to purchase it.

Disaster recovery centers in Wallace in Duplin County and Havelock in Craven County will soon close permanently. However, help is just a phone call or a mouse click away.

State/FEMA disaster recovery centers will change their hours of operation beginning Monday, Dec. 3, 2018. The centers will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturdays. All centers are closed on Sundays.

Governor Roy Cooper has declared December 2 – 8, 2018 as Winter Weather Preparedness Week and is encouraging North Carolinians to plan and prepare now before potentially dangerous winter weather arrives. 

The Brunswick County disaster recovery center in Bolivia will close permanently at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30. However, help is just a phone call or a mouse click away.
