The state of North Carolina and FEMA have approved an additional $1.6 million to reimburse the City of Wilmington for debris removal costs following Hurricane Florence.

As the state begins to clean up from yesterday’s strong storms, heavy winds today are toppling trees and caused power outage numbers to climb quickly across the state this morning.

As a line of strong storms moves across the state today, many areas of North Carolina are experiencing dangerous weather conditions, including heavy rains, flooding and tornadoes.  These storms will move east toward the coast this afternoon and evening.

A team of structural engineers, architects and urban search and rescue team members from North Carolina traveled to Puerto Rico today to begin work assessing damaged homes and buildings after a series of earthquakes and aftershocks that have hit the island territory since late December.

On Monday, January 27, at approximately 5:11 pm, a member of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol was involved in a shooting in Robeson County.

Authorities have identified the state trooper and suspect involved in Monday afternoon’s shooting in Robeson County. During the course of a roadside safety inspection of a commercial motor vehicle, a trooper was approached by an uninvolved armed individual.
