As Hurricane Maria drifts slowly by North Carolina more than 100 miles off our coast, heavy surf is pounding beaches and coastal islands and Governor Roy Cooper encouraged residents to prepare for high winds and water.

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice, in conjunction with the Methodist Home for Children, will host an open house at the Wayne County Multi-Purpose Group Home in Goldsboro to celebrate its repair and reopening following damages incurred during Hurricane Matthew.

The State Highway Patrol proudly welcomed 23 new troopers at a graduation ceremony for the 142nd Basic Highway Patrol School. The celebration ended 15 weeks of extensive academic and physical training.

For the first time since it was created in 1987, the state’s Crime Victims Compensation Commission soon will have a new chairperson. Dick Adams, who has chaired the Commission for the past 30 years, retired after today’s quarterly meeting.
