The State Highway Patrol held a memorial service today to honor the 62 members killed in the line of duty since the patrol’s inception in 1929.

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named new administrators at three state prisons.

Mike Sprayberry, NC Emergency Management Director and Dempsey Benton, Director of the Governor’s Hurricane Recovery Office will meet with local officials to discuss progress in recovery from Hurricane Matthew and visit several properties damaged by the flooding.

Governor Cooper today expressed his disappointment in the Trump Administration and Congressional leadership after they failed to fulfill North Carolina’s funding request for Hurricane Matthew recovery.

With many communities still recovering from Hurricane Matthew, Governor Roy Cooper today reminded North Carolinians to get ready for another hurricane season.

Inmate Dennis Dickerson (#0940575) died this morning at Pender Correctional Institution after an apparent suicide. Dickerson was found unresponsive in his cell at about 6:07 a.m. Prison medical staff and local paramedics responded and worked to resuscitate the inmate, but were unsuccessful.

While floodwaters are beginning to recede in Goldsboro, Tarboro and Greenville, conditions in Kinston will continue to worsen through tomorrow, Governor Roy Cooper cautioned this morning.
