North Carolina has received the international Higgins and Langley Award for Outstanding Achievement in Swift Water Rescue for the coordinated local, state and federal response in October 2016 to Hurricane Matthew.

The State Highway Patrol proudly welcomed 23 new troopers at a graduation ceremony for the 142nd Basic Highway Patrol School. The celebration ended 15 weeks of extensive academic and physical training.

For the first time since it was created in 1987, the state’s Crime Victims Compensation Commission soon will have a new chairperson. Dick Adams, who has chaired the Commission for the past 30 years, retired after today’s quarterly meeting.

The Department of Public Safety is encouraging the public to continue to be on the alert for escaped inmate Micahel D. Clark (#1114140). Clark was on a work assignment at Harnett Correctional Institution on Thursday morning when he escaped.
