Gov. Roy Cooper and his public safety team convened state leaders in education, public safety, public health and criminal justice today in Greensboro to learn about North Carolina's new five-year strategic plan for creating safer schools.

Secretary Kieran J. Shanahan and leaders of the N.C. Department of Public Safety kick off a statewide school safety tour next week in eastern North Carolina, with community forums set for Edenton and Morehead City.
