The North Carolina Department of Public Safety currently has positions available and is now hiring correctional officers at Polk Correctional Institution in Butner and at Warren Correctional Institution in Manson. Numerous positions are available at each location.
A correctional officer's daily work involves the supervision of inmates, ensuring a safe, secure and orderly prison operation and an effective response to emergency situations. Correctional officers represent the majority of the workforce in the state prison system, with more than 9,700 uniformed officers statewide.
Applicants for a state correctional officer position must be 20 years old and a U.S. citizen. Must have a high school diploma or GED and must be able to pass a physical abilities test and a criminal background screening with no felony or domestic violence convictions. Certain misdemeanor convictions within three years are also disqualifying factors.
