Governor's Crime Commission Meets Sept. 9-10

WHAT: Governor’s Crime Commission Quarterly Meeting

WHEN: Wednesday, Sept. 9 and Thursday, Sept, 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHERE: Governor’s Crime Commission, First Floor Conference Room, 1201 Front St., Raleigh

The oath of office will be administered to three new members: Justin Brackett of Cleveland County, Joshua Hayes of Alamance County and Larry Procter of Guilford County.

Scheduled speakers include the executive director of Helpmate Inc., Buncombe County’s Coordinated Community Response to Domestic and Sexual Violence, and special agents Scott Rottman of the Charlotte Police Department and Frank Nivar of the Raleigh Police Department who will speak on the subject, Gang Awareness.

At noon on Wednesday, members will break into committees to make final recommendations on 2016 grant priorities.

BACKGROUND: The Governor’s Crime Commission’s 44 members make recommendations to the governor and the secretary of the Department of Public Safety on federal grants for the state's criminal justice system, crime victims' services and juvenile justice. Federal block grants are awarded each year to government, education and social service agencies to start new and innovative programs and to continue efforts to reduce crime.
