At approximately 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, a Johnston County Highway Patrol trooper was on routine patrol traveling west on NC 210 near I-40 when he observed a motorcycle, operated by Camilo Gomez Apolinar Jr., 26, of 432 Clayton Rd. Angier, traveling east on NC 210 with no headlights on.
The trooper activated all his emergency equipment and attempted initiate a traffic stop. The operator of the motorcycle failed to heed to blue lights and siren, turning onto North Pleasant Coats Road before making a u-turn, traveling back to NC 210.
The operator traveled west on NC 210 for approximately half a mile, entered a curve and traveled left of center head-on into the path of Toyota pickup truck driven by Sandra Miller of 376 Carriage Creek Dr. Smithfield.
The impact resulted in Mr. Apolinar being ejected. He was transported to Wake Medical Center where he later died. Mrs. Miller and a front seat passenger, Mr. Edward Miller, where transported to Johnston Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
