Inmate Steven Haas #0519426 was found unresponsive in his Central Prison cell just before midnight, after an apparent suicide. He was declared dead at Central Prison’s medical center a short time later.
The State Capitol Police Department is investigating the death.
Haas, 39, had recently completed a 7 to 10-year sentence for convictions in Iredell County for second degree sexual assault and indecent liberties with a child. He was released from prison onto post-release supervision on 4/8/2016, but returned to prison on 5/2/2016 after a violation of post-release supervision.
