The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has completed the evacuation of 797 inmates from Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro.
The inmates were safely transported this morning by bus to other facilities within the state prison system due to rising floodwaters around the Goldsboro prison as a result of Hurricane Matthew.
Neuse Correctional Institution is located west of downtown Goldsboro, near the confluence of the Little River and the Neuse River. It is a minimum-security prison housing adult male inmates.
