Central Prison Warden Carlton Joyner has been promoted to the position of deputy director for administration in the state prison system. He will assist Director George Solomon and Deputy Director for Operations Kenneth Lassiter in overseeing the state’s 56 prisons.
Joyner has served as Central Prison warden since 2013. Previously he was administrator at Harnett Correctional Institution in Lillington and the programs director for the prison system. He began his career at Central Prison in 1984 as a correctional officer, and also has worked in a variety of roles at prisons in Durham, Orange and Wake counties.
Joyner holds a bachelor’s degree in public administration from North Carolina Central University, and is a graduate of the state’s Certified Public Manager Program.
