The North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission awarded three State Capitol Police officers with the Advanced Law Enforcement Certification, one of the highest honors awarded by the commission.

After a unanimous vote from the full commission, State Capitol Police Officers Everette Johnson, Derick Proctor and Anthony Sica received the award November 20.

The Commission’s Professional Certificate Program rewards and recognizes officers who continually strive to better themselves professionally by attending schools and training sessions, above and beyond what is currently mandated by the State of North Carolina. Officers must also have several years of full-time experience.

Officer Anthony Sica is a 24-year police veteran, working for NYPD and having retired in 2010 from the Nassau County Police Department in New York. He served with the UNC Hospitals Police before coming to the State Capitol Police in 2014. He is currently assigned to Patrol Squad 3. Officer Everette Johnson is a 32-year police veteran, serving with the Duke University Police and the Chapel Hill Police Department before transferring to the State Capitol Police in 2005. He is currently assigned to Squad 3 in the Patrol Division.

Officer Derick Proctor is a 25-year police veteran, serving with the Shaw University Police and Raleigh Police Department before joining the State Capitol Police in 2007. He is currently assigned to Squad 7 in the Patrol Division.

“The State Capitol Police is fortunate to have many experienced police officers that are well trained,” said Chief Glen Allen of the State Capitol Police. “The three officers being honored will be added to the 20 recipients that have already received the award since the State Capitol Police was established.”
