The State Highway Patrol along with the Division of Law Enforcement Wildlife Resources Commission released their totals for “On the Road, On the Water, Don’t Drink and Drive” campaign for the period of Friday, July 4 through Sunday, July 6.
“On the Road, On the Water, Don’t Drink and Drive” campaign is a multi-agency initiative that is designed to combine law enforcement resources to ensure that all motorists can safely travel on highway and waterways during the summer months.
During the July 4th holiday, the Highway Patrol along with the Wildlife Resources Commission combined their resources with the goal of saving lives. Whether on the road or on the water, law enforcement officers across the state were on the lookout for impaired drivers. Numerous DWI checkpoints were conducted near recreational boating areas.
The totals are reflective of each agencies collaborative enforcement efforts:
Highway Patrol:
- Driving While Impaired: 592
- Provisional License Violation: 31
- Other Implied Consent Violation: 141
- Drug Violations: 64
- Drug Paraphernalia: 29
- Seatbelt Violations: 1963
- Child Restraint Violations: 303
- Equipment Violations: 1136
- Driver License Violation: 1877
- Registration Violation: 2028
- Other Violations: 5827
Total Violations: 13,991
Wildlife Resources Commission:
- Operate While Impaired: 31
- Boating Citations Issued: 406
- Boating Warnings Issued: 821
- Boats Checked: 1109
Total Violations: 1258
