RALEIGH
Nov 22, 2016

Governor Pat McCrory announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved funding to cover additional expenses to help communities in 36 counties recover and rebuild from Hurricane Matthew. Additionally Montgomery County was approved for Public Assistance funds to address clearing storm-related debris and emergency protective measures.

“This is the best Thanksgiving news for communities that were hard hit by this devastating hurricane,” Governor McCrory said. “I strongly encourage everyone affected to register with FEMA to learn more about programs that can help them get through this crisis and on the path to recovery.”

A total of 49 counties are now eligible for Public Assistance Categories A through G. Thirteen counties were previously approved including Anson, Bladen, Chatham, Cumberland, Franklin, Halifax, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Nash, Richmond, Scotland and Wake. The additional 36 counties approved this week include Beaufort, Bertie, Brunswick, Camden, Carteret, Chowan, Columbus, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Duplin, Edgecombe, Gates, Greene, Harnett, Hertford, Hyde, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Montgomery, Moore, New Hanover, Northampton, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Pender, Perquimans, Pitt, Robeson, Sampson, Tyrrell, Washington, Wayne and Wilson.

Public Assistance Categories A and B provide for debris removal and emergency protective measures. Categories C through G include permanent work on infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, water control facilities, buildings and equipment, utilities, parks and recreational facilities.

The federal share of Public Assistance is at least 75 percent of the eligible cost for emergency measures and permanent restoration. Damage assessments are ongoing to determine eligibility for the Public Assistance Program. Individuals wanting to register with FEMA may apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov or call (800) 621-3362.
