Correctional staff with the assistance of law enforcement evacuated a portion of Neuse Correctional Institution this morning following a disturbance that started late Sunday afternoon.

Inmate Christopher Blackett #1515843 was found unresponsive in his cell at Lanesboro Correctional Institution Sunday afternoon, after an apparent suicide.  Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.
 

Two weeks after Hurricane Matthew slammed eastern North Carolina, residents are still reeling from the storm’s impact. Crews from the N.C. Department of Transportation are doing everything they can to help life return to normal.

Correction and law enforcement officers bring a disturbance at Neuse Correctional Institution that lasted approximately four hours under control.  One corrections staff member has been taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

North Carolina residents, who suffered losses and damage as a result of Hurricane Matthew, can get information about state and federal assistance at a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Lenoir County opening Monday, Oct. 24.
