On Monday, October 2, 2023, Governor Roy Cooper signed a state disaster declaration for the Town of Landis in Rowan County that suffered damages from an EF-1 tornado on August 7. The declaration makes additional assistance available to the town.
Possia Sanders has been named facility director at Richmond-Jenkins Juvenile Detention Center in Hoffman. Sanders began his new role on Sept. 25, and will serve as a key leader in the opening of the newly renovated Richmond Juvenile Detention Center in Rockingham upon its anticipated completion in 2025.

Gusty winds combined with saturated soils could result in downed trees and power outages, along with the possibility of flash flooding and coastal flooding.
