Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced the creation of a statewide Office of Violence Prevention that will be located in the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. On Thursday, March 9, at approximately 1:47 a.m., the State Highway Patrol responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle in a ditch on NC 73 near Lowell Road in Albemarle (Stanly County).  Upon arriving to the collision scene, the responding trooper observed the suspected driver involved in the collision to be in possession of a firearm in his waistband.

N.C. Governor’s Crime Commission on Thursday released research by its Criminal Justice Analysis Center that provides new insight into domestic and family violence reported in the state of North Carolina. The report, “Justice Analysis Review: Identifying Domestic Violence in North Carolina,” provides a review of reported domestic violence that includes not only aggravated assault and homicide, but also offenses such as simple assault, kidnapping and intimidation.
